UCLA Offensive Recruiting Board for 2018

Feb. 3 -- With Signing Day for the 2017 class done, we take a look at UCLA's Recruiting Board on offense for the class of 2018, with offered prospects and other potential targets...

We're one year out from National Signing Day in 2018.

Here is a look at the offensive prospects that UCLA has offered that they have a legitimate chance with as well as other prospects that will be on their board that they'll watch closely during the spring and summer.

The 2018 quarterback class out West should be pretty strong but three of the four that UCLA has offered from the West have already committed, and a couple of other guys they were watching also committed to Pac-12 schools.  Of course, the flip side to that is now Jedd Fisch is coaching and recruiting quarterbacks and he was on several of these when he was at Michigan.  Thompson-Robinson was favoring UCLA and Michigan and Fisch was instrumental there.  And he was recruiting Rising when he was at Michigan as well and went by Newbury Park twice in January, mainly to be seen by Rising, even though he couldn't talk to him.  It wouldn't be a surprise to see UCLA bring in two quarterbacks in 2018, but one is an absolute must.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman

Cameron Rising, Newbury Park (Calif.)- (Committed to Oklahoma)

Running Backs

The running back class won't be as strong in the West as this year's 1-2 punch of Harris/Carr.  Pledger was the top back in the West and top three nationally and UCLA is high on his list but he's also attracted plenty of national attention and with his move to IMG, which he announced on Christmas Day, it just got that much more difficult for the Bruins. On the flip side, Bennett just moved to Bishop Gorman, where UCLA figures to be camped out this class, so he may be more realistic. Brown said he hasn't heard from the Bruins since Kennedy Polamalu left so we'll see what happens with DeShaun Foster recruiting backs now.  UCLA offered the two Texans on Thursday.

The receiver class, on the other hand, will be very strong in the West, with two of the top pass-catchers again coming from the Southland and a number of other Scout 300 receivers calling Southern California home, plus another in Hightower, who used to call Southern California home but is still very high on the Bruins.  In fact, UCLA has offered nearly 20 receivers in the 2018 class.  Of course, the key will be to actually put the effort in to recruit them.

Tight Ends

The tight end class comes back to the pack in this class after the strength of the 2017 class but Jordan is the best nationally and UCLA is doing very well for him early.  The addition of Moses Robinson-Carr to Jimmy Jaggers makes the need for a tight end in this class likely just one, but they definitely want to add at least one in 2018.  McDonald got one of his first offers from UCLA and Muhammad camped with the Bruins during the summer. One of our favorite pass-catchers at tight end is Le, who is comparable to Thomas Duarte as a receiver, but is more of an inside receiver than a true tight end.

Camren McDonald, Long Beach (Calif.) Poly

Mustapha Muhammad, Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point

Offensive Line

Offensive line recruiting will certainly be intriguing with Hank Fraley now the offensive line coach.  It will be interesting to see the style of linemen he recruits and if he focuses on the West or tries to recruit nationally.  The offensive line class in the West will be substantially down in 2018, but guys should pop up during spring and Fraley will probably hit the ground running in spring to find them.  UCLA offered its first two in-state linemen in Brown and Dedich after both shined at the Big Man Camp and the Bruins will almost certainly keep recruiting those two. Brown is the top tackle in the state and Dedich the top center nationally while Sewell is the West's top lineman overall.
