UCLA Defensive Recruiting Board for 2018

Feb. 2 -- With Signing Day for the 2017 class done, we take a look at UCLA's Recruiting Board on defense for the class of 2018, with offered prospects and other potential targets...

We're one year out from National Signing Day in 2018.

Here is a look at the defensive prospects that UCLA has offered that they have a legitimate chance with as well as other prospects that will be on their board that they'll watch closely during the spring and summer.

Here's is the offensive recruiting board

Defensive Tackles

After a banner year in 2017, the defensive tackle class in the West will be down, with only a small handful of targets really making a name for themselves early.  Letuligasenoa played next to freshman Bruin Boss Tagaloa and the two are very close.  Irving was offered by the Bruins after their camp.  Togiai has offers from all over.

Defensive Ends

UCLA has offered a handful of West Coast lineman and Wade is one of the best in the country and a teammate of Bruin commit Greg Rogers and Rogers said he would be recruiting Wade himself. Martin told Scout at the U.S. Army Combine that he looks up to and is often compared to...Takk McKinley and Jaelan Phillips.  And UCLA is on him in a big way.

UCLA offered Gaoteote, the top prospect in the West in the 2018 class, early and the Bruins are high on his list.  They offered Tuliaupupu and Masina at the Elite Camp.  And Hughes was offered in the fall and is close with Darnay Holmes.

Cornerback recruiting will be interesting for UCLA in 2018 because of the great success the Bruins had in 2017 with Darnay Holmes, Elijah Gates, Jaylan Shaw, Morrell Osling and Quentin Lake.  They'll certainly take some of these corners, but it's not as pressing a need.  That said, you could see a situation where local cornerbacks are a little more nervous to come because they're familiar with the local corners that signed in 2017 whereas national corners may not be as worried. Radley-Hiles and Holmes played opposite each other this fall but Radley-Hiles is now at IMG.  Taylor-Stuart and Griffin are more realistic in-state targets, but they have a lot of national attention too. The Florida native Johnson has never hidden his high interest in UCLA, though, and he'll be visiting in the spring and Martin would love to bring him in much more long term.

Olaijah Griffin, Mission Viejo (Calif.)

Isaac Taylor-Stuart, San Diego (Calif.) St. Augustine

Bookie Radley-Hiles, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy

Braden Lenzy, Tigard (Ore.)

Verone McKinley III, Lewisville (Texas) Hebron

Houston Griffith, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy

Other Names to Know:

Desmond Talley, Long Beach (Calif.) Poly

Few players have emerged like Blaylock has this fall while Woodbey may well grow into an outside linebacker.  Woodbey named a top four that didn't include UCLA but the Bruins have been all over Blaylock and would love to get an early commitment from him.  Griffith was offered by UCLA in December and raved about the Bruins and the offer and plans to visit this spring.

Jaiden Woodbey, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco

Stephan Blaylock, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco

Aashari Crosswell, Los Angeles (Calif.) Hawkins

UCLA has offers out to a handful of two-way prospects already and there are a number of versatile prospects throughout the region. Williams has two teammates, Moses Robinson-Carr and Morrell Osling, that signed with UCLA in 2017.  Pututau likes UCLA a lot as does Mataele while Hufanga has blown up nationally.  UCLA will watch Taua closely and he'd have a chance to spend a year playing with his brother should he come to Westwood.

Talanoa Hufanga, Corvallis (Ore.) Crescent Valley

Tennessee Pututau, Salt Lake City (Utah) Cottonwood

Devon Williams, Antelope Valley (Calif.)

Treshaun Harrison, Seattle (Wash.) Garfield
