Focus 2018: UCLA Cornerbacks Recruiting Watch List

Feb. 14 -- We take an early look at the top targets at cornerback for UCLA's 2018 class and some other names to know...

After signing one of the best collections of corners that UCLA has ever inked, cornerback recruiting will be interesting for the Bruins in 2018.

UCLA just landed Darnay Holmes, Elijah GatesJaylan ShawMorrell Osling and Quentin Lake, all corners, but all with some positional versatility.

And they've offered a number of corners already in the 2018 class, both regionally and naitonally.

They'll certainly take up to two cornerbacks in the class, but it's not as pressing a need thanks to the crop coming in.

In fact, you could see a situation where local cornerbacks are a little more nervous to come to UCLA because they're familiar with the local corners that signed in 2017, whereas national corners may not be as worried.

Bookie Radley-Hiles and Holmes played opposite each other this fall at Calabasas but Radley-Hiles is now in Florida, at Bradenton IMG Academy, which is a recruiting hotbed for east coast programs.

Isaac Taylor-Stuart and Olaijah Griffin are more realistic in-state targets, but they have a lot of national attention too.

Five-star Florida native Tyreke Johnson has never hidden his high interest in UCLA. He'll be visiting in the spring and UCLA defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin would love to bring him in.

Two Northwest prospects that camped at UCLA in the summer, Braden Lenzy and Kyler Gordon, are high on the Bruins but figure to get plenty of local pressure.

Martin and UCLA defensive line coach Angus McClure have already teamed up on a couple of prospects in Northern California (McClure's recruiting region), one being Sacramento's Maurice Gaines Jr. and another in San Jose,  D'Angelo McKenzie.  We also think that Jevon Holland, who is currently listed as a receiver by Scout, will be re-evaluated as a cornerback, and McClure has some personal history with the Holland family.

We've said it before and we don't want to jinx it, but when Martin and McClure tag-team a recruitment they are undefeated.
