The above video features junior season highlights of 2018 receiver Kalon Barnes.
Kalon Barnes, 2018 WR, Silsbee (Texas)
- Height: 6-0
- Weight: 172
- Recruiting: Barnes has already hit double-digit offers and will see more during the course of the offseason. Among Barnes' current offers are Baylor, Georgia, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UCLA, Missouri, Kansas State, Iowa State, and Oregon State. Barnes visited Texas on Feb. 25 for the Longhorns' junior day.
2016: As a junior, Barnes caught 34 passes for 683 yards and eight touchdowns on 20.1 yards per reception.
2015: Barnes enjoyed a breakout sophomore season as he caught 38 passes for 797 yards and 14 touchdowns on 21.0 yards per reception.
Kalon Barnes is a big-play receiver who lines up around the formation for his high school team, but may project best as an outside receiver in college. Barnes possesses a good frame at 6-foot+ that has ample space for bulk addition, which will help him build strength and improve his blocking ability.
Barnes is a proven vertical threat who can hit the home run. He's also a consistent high-pointer whose frame and body control allow him to win balls in traffic, especially in the red zone.
Barnes is also a threat in the jet/fly game when lined up int he slot. He shows good top-end speed and can be quick off the line, but is not yet totally consistent in his jump at the snap. He sometimes lulls DB's off the line before bursting downfield for separation.
Overall, Barnes is a talented receiver who projects to the high-major level and should find himself among the top wideouts in Texas for the 2018 class. -- Gabe Brooks
