Despite reports that he's leaving UCLA to coach at his alma mater, Indiana, sources are telling Bruin Report Online it's almost a certainty that Steve Alford will stay at UCLA.
"It's about 99.9% certain," a very reliable source said close to the program.
There had been more than just rumors, but reports from reputable sources that said Alford had already agreed to take the open Indiana head coaching job. In fact, one new source reported the details of the contract. Others reported repeatedly "It's done."
Bruin Report Online had heard from many sources that Alford moving to Indiana was a likelihood as recently as a couple of days ago.
Sources in the know said that Alford would take the Indiana job if offered. But very recently those same sources said that Indiana didn't, in fact, offer Alford the position.
Alford will stay at UCLA and have the No. 2-ranked recruiting class in the nation coming into Westwood next season.
His star freshman point guard, Lonzo Ball, announce right after the loss to Kentucky that he would not return to UCLA. Freshman forward T.J. Leaf, junior center Thomas Welsh and sophomore guard Aaron Holiday said they were uncertain if they would put their name in the NBA Draft.
