Hairston Waiting for "Gut Feeling"

Prospects the caliber of elite wing Malik Hairston tend to operate on their own schedules. After having visited three programs already, Hairston doesn't sound like a young man in a rush to make a decision...

Pressure? You kidding me. Renaissance High's Malik Hairston feels none of it. He's not ready to decide yet.

"Some [schools] are starting to put it on but I'm not feeling the pressure. I know it's my decision," Hairston said.

"I don't have a timetable as of right now. I really think it's going to be a surprise when I do it. I've always taken life very slow. I don't think I'm going to have to wait until after the season. I'm just going to continue to think about it but I don't think I can go wrong with these schools."

Ohio State, UCLA and Kansas are the three schools he's already visited. However, don't discount Michigan in the mix. "Those are probably my top four." Hairston said that he's likely to take an unofficial visit to Michigan and if he doesn't take any more official visits, he could wind up there on a paid visit as well.

Kentucky has been in contact with the family and Virginia Tech wants him to come for an official but neither school has been able to lock him down for a date.

While neither UK or VT can get a visit date, probing Hairston for a leader is even tougher. "They were all great visits in their own right. All three of them had different positive things. I don't really think I could rank [the visits]."

Hairston is a gut-feeling sort of kid. The biggest gut decision he ever made was the one in which he picked Renaissance over King as the place to play high school ball. Malik said he feels comfortable when the decisions just come to him and certainly he hasn't had a gut feeling about a school just yet.
