The top linebacker in the West as rated by Greg Biggins of TheInsiders.com, Schantz continues to play on, even as his future is in the air.
"I've been sending in film, but there's been nothing that I know of. My mom said some coaches from UCLA and Cal were there (at Canyon game last Friday), so that's cool," said Schantz.
So far, Schantz has helped lead the Cowboys to a 5-0 start, and while the Cowboys just beat Valencia last night, Hart is scheduled the following weekend. "These two games are big ones," Schantz said earlier in the week. "We have two tough weeks ahead of us and its going to be a battle. We need to be focused."
Through the halfway point of the season, Schantz has 47 tackles and three fumble recoveries in what he calls "five solid games."
With no offers yet, Schantz is still getting plenty of phone calls. "I'm hearing from some schools, UCLA, San Diego State, Cal, but I am really wide open, don't have a top five. I am just waiting to see who offers. What's important is our season right now."
Schantz does plan to attend this weekend's UCLA game against Cal with fellow Cowboy QB Nate Longshore, who committed to the Bears earlier this month. "I'll be at the game watching it with Nate. It should be fun. But like I said, I am just going to go out and play our games, and not think about it. The offers will come."
