Junior Power Forward Has Coaches Flocking

Ekene Ibekwe, a 6-9 post player from Carson, has UCLA and other elite programs like North Carolina, Kentucky and Arizona beating a path to his high school this fall...

Ekene Ibekwe, 6-9 JR PF, Carson (Calif.) High, is seeing a great deal of very early recruiting attention, including that from UCLA.

UCLA Head Coach Steve Lavin visited Carson's campus last Friday, mostly to watch Ibekwe work out. Reports are that Lavin was very impressed and stayed for about 2 1/2 hours.

Arizona's Lute Olson has also been to Carson, as has USC's Henry Bibby. Assistants from North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, Stanford, Utah, and others have also been there.

Reportedly, North Carolina asked Ibekwe if he'd like to commit early.

His favorites are North Carolina, UCLA, USC, Arizona, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, UNLV and Texas. He was a long-time UCLA fan, but now UCLA will have to fight off some pretty big names to get him.

Ebekwe is a kid with tremendous potential. About 6-7 just a year and half ago, he's continuing to grow and could end up 6-10+. He has long arms and is very athletic, with great hops and an ability to run. He has an awkward jump shot, but it's pretty consistent, while he's still developing a back-to the-basket game. Because of the combination of his physical and athletic potential and his coordination, he could very well be the most promising big man on the west coast in the junior class.
