Can UCLA Beat Out LSU?

Louisiana defensive back Craig Steltz for months told Super Prep that LSU was his leader. Since mid-October, though, Steltz has called himself "very open." Can the Bruins get him from the Tigers?

One reason LSU has led is that the brother of Craig Steltz, 6-2, 202, Metairie (LA) Archbishop Rummel, is a sophomore fullback there.

But Steltz said his brother has given him some advice. "My brother has just said to me to wait-and-see what happens and to take all my visits before I commit anywhere," says Steltz. "I'm visiting LSU on 1/17 and I also might go to the Arkansas (11/29) game.

"UCLA (recruiting the hardest) sends me a lot more handwritten letters and really stresses that I should come and visit them officially. I like the defensive scheme they run and they use their safety a lot.

"They have a good winning tradition and that's important to me. I'm not even sure what their record is now but they have a new coach and they'll be improving.

"I've also been talking to Colorado assistant coach Vance Joseph a lot. He's an awesome coach and all the players really like him. He's just one of those great coaches everyone wants to play for.

"I'll decide after my visits in late January."

11 game (9-2) stats: 75+ tackles/3 picks. Academics: 3.2/17
