Skaggs Talks About Commitment

The newest football commitment, offensive line prospect Nathaniel Skaggs from Poway Rancho Bernardo, talks about why he committed to the Bruins, and where he projects on the line...

San Diego Ranch Bernardo OL Nathaniel Skaggs (6-4, 265) committed to UCLA (12/19 official visit) this last week over Oregon St and Colorado St.

"I'm still probably going to visit Colorado St on December 6th but I'd say there's a 99.99% chance I'm going to UCLA," said Skaggs. "I'm going there. It would take some fluke thing happening for me not to go to UCLA.

"The other schools which offered me were UNLV and San Diego St. SDS offered me almost a year ago. My dad played nose guard for the Aztecs.

"Coach Weber at UCLA says they want me to play center there. They want to start recruiting faster and more mobile offensive linemen. I've been playing left guard for Ranch Bernardo. I haven't really played center, but I have long-snapped. Their coaches have told me they want to sign five or six OLs at UCLA for this class.

"Some schools were also recruiting me for defense too. CAL, Oregon St, Colorado St and Arizona were all looking at me for DL or OL/DL.

"I chose UCLA because I like the large campus and the high quality education. Karl Dorrell just needs time to make the program his own. He's just dealing the hand he was dealt now.

"I'm also a heavyweight wrestler and I'll be wrestling again as soon as our season is over. We're 7-3-1 and in the playoffs right now. Last year I think my record was something like 44-5." Skaggs has a 3.5 GPA and scored an 1180 on the SAT.
