"If I had to choose between the L.A. schools, I would say that USC has the slight edge," says the youngster from Plays Del Rey St. Bernard. "They have more athletes and are also bringing in another great recruiting class I hear. They'll have great players at every position.
"It's a plus that there aren't too many QBs at SC--but I don't mind competing. They were straight up with me and said I'd have to compete and that's it.
"It's a better situation for me at UCLA for playing earlier. But I'll probably redshirt wherever I go, unless a school needs me right away. I'd be a redshirt freshman when their QBs are seniors. UCLA needs someone to step up.
"I like (Karl) Dorrell because he's kicked-back and very straightforward. He thinks I'd fit into the offense well because I can run and pass.
"Washington calls a lot and they send me handwritten letters every day. I like their situation because they need a QB and I could possibly play early.
"It's hard to say where I'll go because SC and UCLA are the only schools I've been to while schools are in session, so I have a much better feel for them. It would be a hard choice between them and I probably won't officially visit them even though they both want me to set up trips. But I've already seen a lot of them. I don't know as much about the others."
Hinds said the recovery from his September ACL surgery is coming along fine. "I can run now. The doctors told me my rehab would be 4-6 months from my surgery and I'm ahead of schedule I think."
In regard to his academics, Hinds said, "I've passed my SAT. I'm clear and I don't need to retake it."
