According to two different sources, UCLA has received two more commitments, one from a tight end and another from a linebacker..
According to sources at Phoenix City College, tight end Matt Raney, 6-5, 260 (pictured above), committed to UCLA on his official visit the weekend before last.
Raney is considered a good blocking tight end.
Another source also confirmed that JC linebacker Dan Nelson, 6-2, 235, from Arizona Western verbally committed on his official visit this last weekend.
Nelson is a freshman at Arizona Western, originally from Boise, Idaho. He was qualified out of high school, is able to transfer after this semester, and will have four years to play three, according to sources. He apparently spent time in the military and is older. Some close to the JC football ranks report that Nelson is a prospect with very good character, and good academics. He was named pre-season second team NJCAA All-American, and made first team all WSFL (Western States Football League).
Both Raney and Nelson are expected to sign their National Letter of Intent during the JC signing period, which begins this Wednesday, December 17th. They will enroll in winter quarter and participate in spring practice. Their scholarships count against the 2003/2004 school year and not next year's incoming class.
