Harwell Says Committed, But Still Considers ASU

One of UCLA's biggest recruits, defensive end Brigham Harwell, has been committed to UCLA since August 2nd. And while he says he's still committed to the Bruins, he's talking about Arizona State as well...

Brigham Harwell, 6-1, 250, Hacienda Heights (Calif.) Los Altos, the #9-ranked defensive end in the country, talked about his visit to UCLA -- and where he stands.

"It's really pretty close between UCLA (12/19--host Wesley Walker)and Arizona State (10/3). I'm still thinking about it," said Harwell. "I still consider myself committed to UCLA but I plan to take the next few weeks and compare the two schools and talk it over with my guardians and decide what's best.

"I really like the coaches at UCLA, especially Don Johnson. He coaches for his players and is committed to UCLA. Apparently he turned down a coaching job at Nevada as defensive coordinator and that shows his loyalty.

"During my trip we got to go to the Michigan State basketball game and it was cool because it was John Wooden Day and Magic Johnson and Kareem and Bill Walton were there.

"My earlier visit to ASU was really good too and I like all the coaches there a lot. They were always my second choice. I didn't want to leave them behind and I'm glad I didn't.

"ASU is really good and I like them a lot. I liked how everything was close together at ASU. All the facilities are right there in one place. At UCLA things are more spread out."

Harwell reports a 2.8 GPA and has yet to achieve a passing SAT score. \
