Guard Mario Chalmers Has Options

Mario Chalmers, the elite junior guard from Alaska, has programs from across the country showing interest in him, including schools in the Big 10, ACC, Conference USA and Pac-10, among others...

We spoke with Mario Chalmers, 6-1 JR PG Anchorage (Alaska) Bartlett, Saturday at the Freedom Classic Invitational and asked him if he had a list of favorites.

"Not really," said Chalmers. "I'm hearing from a lot of schools – Marquette, Wisconsin, Kansas, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Syracuse, Arizona, UCLA..."

Chalmers said geography won't play a role in his decision. "It doesn't really matter," said Chalmers, when asked if he had a preference in terms of location.

"I'm looking for a good college atmosphere, good facilities, good coaching and good crowd support," said Chalmers. "Early playing time is also a big deal."

We asked if any schools have extended scholarship offers and Chalmers replied, "Wisconsin, UCLA, Wake Forest, Marquette and Arizona."

Chalmers said he is willing to play either guard spot. "I'll play point guard or shooting guard," said Chalmers.

In his game Saturday, Chalmers scored twenty eight points, to go with five assists, in a 66-60 loss to Lynwood.

UCLA asssistant Ernie Zeigler was in attendance to watch Chalmers, as was Arizona's Lute Olson and Rodney Tention.

Chalmers told us that he currently has a GPA of 3.0.
