We spoke with Deane the other day and asked him about the schools that have expressed early interest.
"I've had the most contact with Utah, Arizona and UCLA," said Deane. "I talked with Arizona through my coach, UCLA came out to a scrimmage thing we had and Utah has been to my practices and games. I'm also hearing from St. John's, Stanford, Michigan, Oregon…and some others."
We asked Deane if he had a favorite school growing up and he replied, "Well, my Dad played at Utah and I also liked Stanford because of their academics."
Deane went on to discuss some of the issues he'll consider when choosing a school. "The area, how good the school is academically, the coaches and players they have. Early playing time is something I'll look at also."
We asked Deane if he liked a particular part of the country and he replied, "I like the Midwest and the West Coast. My parents would like me to be closer to home, but that won't be a major issue."
Deane said he doesn't anticipate a quick decision. "I'm going to take my time," said Deane.
Deane's team finished second in their region and they begin play in the state playoffs on Saturday. For the season, he said he averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds a game. Deane told us that he has a 3.8 GPA.
