Tony Ugoh, 6-6, 280, Houston (Tex.) Westfield, said he's still wide open when it comes to schools and won't be able to arrange official visits until his high school season is over.
"And that might not be for a while," Ugoh said. "We're 8-1 and we're doing great. If we win in the playoffs and keep winning it could go almost until Christmas. I'd have to start visits in January, then."
Ugoh said that, even though being wide open, he does have some schools he likes. "Oklahoma, Florida, Florida State, UCLA, Arkansas, Arizona and Iowa, and a few others," he said. Ugoh said he intends to take all five visits and would like to start taking them in December, if his playoff schedule permits.
With so many schools on his list that are relatively far away from his home in Texas, Ugoh said he has no problem with going away to school, and neither do his parents. "They don't have a preference. They're leaving it up to me." Ugoh said that he'll almost definitely visit the Florida schools and UCLA. "I haven't been to Florida or California, so that'd be fun, to see it, and see if I'd fit in at those schools."
Ugoh said that "fitting in" is important to him. "I want to go to a place that's a good environment, some place where you feel comfortable and fit in. It has to have good academics. I want to major in electrical engineering." Ugoh also said that he'll consider the depth chart at the various schools. "If I'm ready to play in my first year, it'd be good. But if I haven't adjusted, it'd be okay to redshirt."
Ugoh said he has a 3.4 GPA and scored a 970 on his SAT.
