JR DL Prospect Alfred Jones

UCLA will have four players from Louisiana on its roster next year, and could make it five, recruiting potentially elite defensive lineman Alfred Jones, from New Orleans...

Alfred Jones of New Orleans (Louisiana) St. Augustine is being considered by some to be one of the top defensive end prospects in the Southeast. The 6-foot-3 and 240-pound end is extremely athletic and strong. He has an incredible 38-inch vertical jump to go along with a 515 pound squat.

Jones already has been offered a scholarship by Ole Miss and West Virginia and he has several other schools in heavy pursuit.

"UCLA and Oklahoma State are hot on my trail," Jones said. "I'm also getting interest from LSU, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech. My top five schools are LSU, UCLA, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and West Virginia."

Does he have any favorites? "My top two are LSU and UCLA," he said. "I probably like both of them about the same. LSU is close to home and they have excellent facilities. UCLA is in the Pac-10, plus I like Los Angeles."

Jones, who grew up a Florida State fan, would like to hear from his childhood favorite. "I haven't heard from them yet," he said. "My first bowl game that I attended had Florida State playing in it. If Florida State showed some interest, I would definitely put them in my top five and if they offered, they would be even with LSU and UCLA."

Jones earned a spot on the all-district team as a junior by recorded 50 tackles and 11 sacks.

"I'm very quick off the ball," he said. "I give it a 100% on every play. I would compare my style of play to Leroy Glover."

The Louisiana standout is looking for a school that has a defense that fits his strengths. He is also is taking location on the University under consideration.

Jones is an excellent student who should have no problems qualifying academically. He would like to major in Physical Therapy.
