JR Receiver Prospect David Gettis

One of the best wide receiver prospects in the west and probably the nation is Dorsey's David Gettis. Also a state sprint champ, the 6-4 junior is concerned right now with track, academics, and a bit of football recruiting...

David Gettis, 6-4, 190, Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey, had 600 yards receiving and seven touchdowns on offense as a junior. He was named second team all-league. On defense, he had 30 tackles and two interceptions in six games at the free safety position. David is expected to be recruited as a receiver.

Being very fast, Gettis is considered to be one of the top receiver prospects on the west coast and in the nation.

UCLA and USC are his early leaders.

"UCLA is close to home," says Gettis. "I really like Coach (Eric) Bieniemy. He and I have spoken a few times and he is a real nice man.

"SC is also close to home. I went to a couple of their games last year and I love the way they prepare. I love the 'football is life' attitude they have there. Their demeanor before game time is excellent."

Oregon, Washington, and Oklahoma are the rest of his top five.

He will be attending the USC Junior Day this Sunday and he went to the Trojans' summer camp last year. He is unsure of his summer camp plans for this year as of now.

In addition to being a great football player, Gettis gets it done in track where he competes in the 4X400, 4X100, the 400 and the 200. His best 400 time is a 47.1 and his best 200 time is a 21.5. He's the reigning state champ in the 400.

It is easy to see why David lists the following as his main strengths. "My jumping ability and my speed," he says.

He currently carries a 2.3 core GPA and will be working hard to rectify that. Gettis takes the SAT this Saturday. He would like to major in Engineering or Business.
