Antwuan Smith Ready to Trip

The talented wide receiver prospect from Fresno is finished with his senior season and is starting to turn his attention to recruiting, with a couple of visits set for the beginning of December. It all sounds good for UCLA...

Antwuan Smith, 5-11, 180, Clovis (Calif.) Buchanan, is ready to start taking his official visits since his team lost last Friday and didn't qualify for the playoffs.

Smith, so far, has a visit set to Fresno State for December 7th, and one to UCLA on December 14th. "I might set one with Oregon," he said. "I just got off the phone with them and they said they want me to trip but we didn't set it up. I might take a trip to Washington, maybe Washington State, Notre Dame or Michigan, too."

Smith said UCLA is still his leader, and that UCLA is probably recruiting him the hardest. "Coach Skipper is recruiting me and he's cool. He's a good coach." Smith attended the UCLA/Oregon game last Saturday and said he had a really good time. "It was fun. The game was great. It was my first time at the Rose Bowl and it was packed. All those people, I said to myself, ‘I could definitely get used to this.' My parents were pretty impressed, too."

Smith, who has run a 4.47 40, spent the first half of the season as a running back and the second half as a receiver, but said he's primarily getting recruited as a receiver. "I also played some corner on defense," he said.

Location of his potential school is going to be a big factor. "I kind of want to get away," Smith said. "That's the thing, I'd go far away if I really liked the place. I want to get a way for a while. UCLA is far enough away, but if it were farther I wouldn't mind it either. My mom wants me to go to UCLA so that she can come to the games and I'm pretty close. My dad doesn't care. He just wants me to take trips and make sure that's the school I want to go to."

Smith said he has a 3.0 and re-took the SAT earlier this month.
