Running Back Prospect Cortes Rice

Cortes Rice, from Los Alamitos, is definitely a running back prospect to watch, with good size at 6-1 and 205. He'll travel to various schools for their camps this spring and summer, looking for scholarship offers...

Running back prospect Cortes Rice (6-1, 205, 4.55) of Los Alamitos (Calif.) may have a busy summer, as he says he plans to attend one day camps at Arizona, USC, UCLA and possibly Notre Dame.

Cortes favors UCLA slightly over Notre Dame, USC, Arizona and Ohio St, but he doesn't have any scholarship offers. The Wildcats are recruiting him the hardest. "I'm getting a lot of handwritten letters from them," he said.

"I grew up watching USC and Ohio St. I like both their traditions and Ohio St is always on TV. I used to live in Columbus," said Rice. "And I love all the Heisman winners at USC. They always produce great RBs. They have a very good offense."

Cortes plans to attend the Junior Day at UCLA on Apr 17. "They get good publicity and they are tradition rich too. I think I'd be able to play early there."

Cortes has only visited the two Los Angeles schools, but says distance won't be a factor.

He missed five games as a junior due to a strained rotator cup and a broken finger, but still had 80 carries for 550 yds and six TDs. Cortes benches 285, squats 365 and has a VJ of 32.

"I have great vision and I'm big with good speed. I just have determination and work hard to get to the end zone. I'm going to be playing defense as a SR too, so I want to improve my conditioning. I also want to work on my pass blocking."

Rice said he has a 3.3 GPA and will take the SAT this spring.
