The bulky back has attended a handful of Bruin practices, and has enjoyed what he has seen.
"It's been real fun going to practice. Man, I love watching EB (running back coach Eric Bieniemy). He is just an awesome coach. We share a lot of similarities. He coaches the way I play the game, but I am even more fiery. He's very hands-on in the way he coaches," said Hypolite. "From a players standpoint, you want a coach like that, who'll teach you all of the little intricacies of the game, and how to be a good runner, a good blocker and a good all-around back."
It's no surprise then that Bieniemy is recruiting Hypolite.
At UCLA's Junior Day, Hypolite spent much of his time with Bieniemy, as well as head coach Karl Dorrell. "I went to both UCLA and USC's Junior Day. They were different. USC's was longer and kind of dragged, but UCLA's was concise and to the point. They summed up everything they needed to in the time that they had us. The message was quick and powerful from the staff. I had a real good time at it," said Hypolite.
Hypolite plans to attend UCLA's spring scrimmage on Saturday, and the Bruins are definitely a major player for his services.
"I mean, its UCLA. It's the local school, it's on the way back up, I have had a lot of friends and family go there. I just want to take my time right now and see what else is available."
One person who is already making pitches to Hypolite is recent Bruin commit Aaron Ware. "I know Aaron is committed there. His brother played there, and he played at Loyola. We talk a lot about playing together. I've had family there too, so UCLA is an intriguing place for me," said Hypolite. "Plus I know Kevin (Harbour) and know Matt (Ware) and they both talk it up." Along with the Bruins and USC, Hypolite is also interested in Oklahoma, Florida State and LSU.
Hypolite burst onto the season as a 2003 junior with an outstanding showing against Long Beach Poly in the CIF Division I Finals, rushing for 89 yards on 12 carries. He finished 2003 with 110 carries for 669 yards and four touchdowns.
He didn't attend the Nike Camp in San Diego, but intends on participating at the Stanford Nike Camp. His other camps for the summer are still undetermined.
