Lanis Has Two Offers

The big Russian from Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw, Aleksey Lanis, said his biggest priority in picking a college is academics, so it's no surprise who are his two early leaders...

Aleksey Lanis, 6-5, 313, Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw, was one of the best linemen prospects at the recent Nike Camp in San Diego.

Lanis moves really well for how big he is, looking good in the foot drills.

He also looks good academically, telling us he has a 3.8 GPA and having already achieved a 1210 SAT.

Lanis said, though, when it comes to recruiting, he's in the wait-and-see mode. "I really just want to wait and see who is going to offer me," Lanis said. As of right now, UCLA has offered, and Stanford."

Lanis said he's also hearing from Oregon, Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida, Miami and USC, but none have indicated recently that they were on the brink of offering him a scholarship.

For someone with such good academics, it's no surprise that they're a priority for Lanis in deciding on a college. "I want great academics," Lanis said. "That's the biggest factor for me. And then it would be how good their offensive line program is."

He said going far away from home to get the right combination in a school wouldn't be a factor. "It doesn't matter to me at all where the school is. I have no problem going far away or leaving the west coast."

He really though wanted to emphasize that he's in no hurry to make a decision on college. "I want to take my time, and make sure I don't make a mistake. It's a big decision. So I think I'll take all five of my official trips."

Lanis, who said most schools are recruiting him as an offensive tackle, said he could possibly go to the Stanford Nike Camp, and was considering attending one of the UCLA camps in June.
