Safety Prospect Brett Johnson

Probably the best all-around prospect at the Adidas Camp Saturday, Henderson (Nev.) Green Valley's Brett Johnson has had some programs come out to see him. He said he has one school, though, that is his childhood favorite...

Brett Johnson, 6-1, 192, Henderson (Nev.) Green Valley was at least among the few best prospects at Saturday's Adidas Camp on UCLA's campus, if not the overall best.

He ran one of the best 40s (a 4.7, which for Spaulding Field isn't bad. He ran a 4.57 at the Nike Camp), jumped 37 inches in the vertical and looked really good in the one-on-one drills.

Last season he had 80 tackles and two interceptions from his free safety position, the position where most programs that are recruiting him project him. "I'm a wide receiver, too, but I didn't get the ball thrown to me much last year. I want to play anywhere in college and I really like free safety."

Fairly unknown Johnson said he has yet to get any scholarship offers but he is hearing from a number of schools.

"Washington, UCLA, USC and Oregon have all gotten a hold of me," Johnson said.

When asked if he has a favorite, Johnson said, "UCLA. I grew up in California, in Barstow, before we moved to Nevada. UCLA was my favorite team and I always wanted to go there.

So far this spring recruiting period, a number of schools have been out to Green Valley to watch Johnson. "Arizona State just came out," he said. "Also, Fresno State, Utah State, UNLV, and BYU."

What would he do if UCLA offered him a scholarship? "Well, I'd like to wait to make a decision. But if UCLA offered I would probably just take it."

Johnson said he has a 3.0 overall GPA and achieved a 3.5 last semester. He has yet to take the SAT.
