Possibly the biggest quarterback prospect in the West is Hemet (Calif.) High, quarterback Brandis Dew (6-5, 246).

And while the amount of offers he has isn't huge, Dew is getting plenty of attention from schools across the country.

"Just recently, I've heard from Duke, Arizona, UTEP, LSU, Arizona State, BYU and Dartmouth," said Dew.

His two offers are from UTEP and Duke. So why only two offers? Because he physically looks more like a tight end, some schools are a bit hesitant. "Some schools are recruiting me as an athlete, but I am a quarterback," Dew said.

His top five includes Duke, Arizona and LSU, with the two local schools, along with the two local schools, UCLA and USC.

If UCLA and USC picked up their interest, that would catapult them up his list in his mind. "Sure, if either one got more involved and then offered, it would make a difference. I'd like to stay close to home if I can, but if not, I'll be able to adjust."

Dew had a strong showing at the San Diego Nike Camp last month, running a 4.8 40, jumping 33 inches, repping 22 times on the bench and having a good day in the one-on-ones.

"I was pretty happy with my performance (at Nike)," said Dew.

Following a junior year in which he threw for 1,931 yards, 21 touchdowns, had a 57.1% completion ratio and a 117 quarterback rating, plus five rushing touchdowns, Dew is amped to get back on the field, something he was able to do last week when Hemet started spring practice.

"We lost in the first round of the playoffs (to Norco) in overtime," Dew said. "That won't happen again. It was great to be back out there."

UCLA assistant coach Dino Babers is recruiting Dew for UCLA, and he has also had contact with head coach Karl Dorrell when he attended UCLA's Junior Day in April. Next weekend, Dew will be at UCLA's One Day Camp.

Dew is in no real hurry to make a decision, wanting to wait out the process, see what other offers come and take some trips.

A good student, Dew has a 3.5 GPA and achieved a 950 on the SAT, qualifying him by NCAA standards.
