Collison Taking Unofficial Visits

Etiwanda (Calif.) High's Darren Collison, the #2 ranked point guard in the west, went on an unofficial visit recently and has another visit planned for this weekend...

We spoke with Darren Collison, a 5-11 junior point guard from Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) Etiwanda, over the weekend and asked him which schools have been expressing interest in him.

"UCLA, San Diego State, most of the Pac-10, Pepperdine, New Mexico and some others," said Collison.

Asked which schools have been recruiting him the hardest to date, Collison replied, "UCLA and San Diego State."

Collison has yet to take any official visits, but he did take an unofficial visit recently.

"I went down to San Diego State for an unofficial two weeks ago," said Collison. "It went pretty well. It was pretty cool there and I got a chance to meet with the players." Collison will take an unofficial visit to UCLA beginning Friday.

Asked about the factors that will influence his decision, Collison said, "academics and just someplace I feel comfortable. Also what's best for me as a freshman, someplace where I can play right away."

Collison doesn't anticipate making a decision anytime soon. "Probably not until after the summer," said Collison.

When we asked him if location would play a role in his decision, Collison replied, "I'd probably like to stay more on the West Coast."

Collison told us he had a 3.6 GPA on his most recent report card and he'll take the SAT next week.
