The UCLA staff is recruiting DeWitty as a safety, so that is where he spent his time in camp Sunday. He has not played the spot since his freshman year so he had to get re-acquainted. He looked like he got quite a bit of rust off in a hurry and could potentially be just as potent in the secondary as he was at tailback last season, when he rushed for 20 touchdowns and 1,438 yards.
Does he care what position he plays? "It doesn't matter to me," said the soft-spoken DeWitty. "Most schools are just recruiting me as an athlete and that is fine. I am going to start at both positions for my team this year."
He now has written offers from Illinois, Wyoming, Colorado, and Arizona State. His top three are UCLA, Kansas State, and Arizona State and he said UCLA impressed him on Sunday. "It is really cool here. I love the environment and the coaching staff is great."
A few members of the UCLAstaff spent quite a bit of time after the day's workout talking with DeWitty.
DeWitty's plan was to spend Sunday only at UCLA's camp, and then he will be taking an unofficial visit to Illinois and attending a Nebraska camp for the remainder of his summer plans.
