Could UCLA Offer Devin Head?

Offensive guard prospect Devin Head from Corona (Calif.) Centennial has looked good at a couple of UCLA camps recently. With UCLA looking for offensive and defensive tackles, and not necessarily offensive guards, UCLA's coaches are trying to see how they could fit in Head to their recruiting plans...

Corona (Calif.) Centennial's Devin Head (6-4, 265) was very impressive at the UCLA one-day camp in early June, and then the UCLA four-day camp in late June. He has good feet, quickness, and is a very aggressive player.

Head does not have any offers yet but it sounds like Colorado and UCLA are close: "The UCLA coaches spoke with me for about an hour after a day of their four-day camp and they said they will meet as a staff about me and come up with a decision. I was speaking with coaches Babers, Dorrell, and Cable. I went to only one day of that camp because they told me they wanted to see me in pads."

Besides CU and the Bruins, Head is still looking at Oregon, Arizona, and Cal. He does not claim a favorite. His parents have expressed their thoughts on where he should lean. "They want me to stay close to home, but they will support me wherever I decide to go," he said.

Head is another one of those players who is a tweener between a guard and a center so that may be the main hold-up on offers. "A lot of schools have told my head coach that they think me and Richard Pacheco are two of the top lineman in the area but they don't know where to put us."

So would defensive tackle be an option? "You know, I have never played it but when I went to the last UCLA camp their coaches had me practice on the defensive line for one of the sessions. It was my first ever practice as a defensive player. I would be open to it. Coach Cable told me that it is not totally up to him right now as far as the offer goes and that he is going to find a way to make me a Bruin."

Devin carries a 3.16 core GPA and scored a 1080 on his SAT.
