Best of the West 2006

The west coast class of 2006 is a good one, particularly among its bigs -- the power forwards and centers -- like James Keefe and Brook and Robin Lopez. The wings are good, too, with Derrick Jasper among the best...

The West Coast centers in 2006 look to be a very strong group, led by Spencer Hawes. Brook Lopez and Robin Lopez are also elite prospects, while Ray Hall and Taylor Harrison will also draw considerable high major interest. Those five players constitute our current top five centers. The others are in no particular order.

Keep in mind that we've seen some of these players only briefly. It's quite probable that there will be major adjustments to the list at the end of July.

CENTERS:

Spencer Hawes, 6-9, Seattle (Wash.) Seattle Prep
Brook Lopez, 6-10, Fresno (Calif.) San Joaquin Memorial

Brad Zazzara, 6-8, San Mateo (Calif.) Serra

The position of power forward in the West Coast class of 2006 is not particularly deep yet, but there's real quality at the top. It's quite conceivable that four to five players will end up being nationally ranked in the top 50. Keefe is the clear-cut choice for the top spot as of today and the rest of the list is in no particular order. However, Deane, Lopez, Schreiber and Stepheson are all potential elite recruits in their own right.

Keep in mind that we've seen some of these players only briefly. It's
quite probable that there will be major adjustments to the list at
the end of July.
