Justin Medlock, 6-0, 185, Fremont (Calif.) Mission San Jose, verbally committed to UCLA this weekend on his official visit.
"It was good, I committed," Medlock. "I really like Oregon and in the summer, I didn't think I was going anywhere but North Carolina. I was a longtime North CArolina fan. That's why UNC offered me. But then I starting liking UCLA."
Medlock was pretty certain he was going to commit to UCLA on his official visit this weekend, it was just really a matter of when. "They took us to the Rose Bowl, announced our names, and that was fun. The food was really good. We went to Lawry's and that was excellent. I had already told coach Caragher that I was probably coming. But then this morning at breakfast, Coach Toledo asked me and I said I was coming to UCLA."
Medlock said that he liked Oregon quite a bit and enjoyed his visit there last weekend, but the weather was a factor. "Oregon was great, but I don't like the rain. UCLA has it all, weather, a good program and a good education."
Medlock has his future pretty much figured out at UCLA. "I'll redshirt for a year, and then their kickers will graduate, so I'll be able to compete for the position by my second year. I'd also possibly compete to do the punting. Chris Kluwe has a big leg, and I'd have to beat him out. I want to kick more than I want to punt and I don't really expect to punt but just to kick."
He said that he didn't feel that any of the other uncommitted recruits who were also on their official visits this weekend had committed or were close to committing. "There were a couple of guys that had UCLA as one of their two finalists," he said. "But I didn't really talk that much about it with them"
