But for Mt. Prospect (Ill.) offensive linemen Eric Hedstrom (6-6, 275), the plan is for him to move from guard to tackle when he gets to the next level.
"Most of the schools are telling me that want me to move to tackle in college, though I play guard right now," Hedstrom said. "They like my speed and how I'm tall and rangy. But if I need to play guard in college, I have experience."
While he stayed off the summer camp circuit these past few months, Hedstrom still has garnered 13 offers to date. He holds offers from UCLA, Tennessee, Arkansas, Nebraska, Boston College, Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, Indiana, Northern Illinois, Bowling Green, Akron and Western Michigan.
"It's still so early so I am pretty wide open. I don't really have a leader right now," said Hedstrom.
Is the interest in UCLA serious? "I am interested in all the schools that are interested in me. They being out there could be a disadvantage, but if I go to a school and I like it, the location won't matter to me at all."
Hedstrom did say he wouldn't mind staying close to home, but reiterated he is open to any school. He said, "I'd like my dad to be able to come and watch my games."
Mt. Prospect gets started this weekend, and Hedstrom said he will now focus his attention on his senior season, instead of on recruiting. "I'll decide probably after the season. I'd like to make some visits on the weekends if I can during the season, but I probably won't decide until after this year is over."
Hedstrom scored a 25 on his ACT, and has a 4.6 GPA on a 5.0 scale.
