Cortes Rice, 6-1, 205, Los Alamitos (Calif.) High, is very eager to get back on the field after missing five games last season and not reaching all of his goals. Many schools are in wait-and-see mode with Rice and just want to view how he does his first few games before offering.

Cortes stars at running back but he could play other positions. "They have me interchanging at tailback and strong safety this season," said the versatile Rice. "I like tailback but wherever I am needed is where I'll play."

He does not have any offers yet and still favors UCLA. "I like the coaching staff at UCLA," said Rice. "They are building the program back up there. Going to school at UCLA would be a good experience. I also like that they are on TV a lot."

Besides the Bruins, he likes Arizona, Boston College, Washington State, and Notre Dame.

This summer, Cortes attended the USC skills and UCLA one-day camp in addition to the Stanford Nike Combine. He is originally from Columbus, Ohio where both of his parents graduated from Ohio State. He moved to California when he was five but still has a soft spot for the east coast. "My parents kind of want me to stay out here but they wouldn't mind if I went back east somewhere. I still visit family in Columbus every once in a while."

Rice carries a 3.1 core GPA and will take his ACT October 6th.

Los Alamitos takes on Santa Barbara Dos Pueblos this Friday in their season opener.
