Heating Up With Nixon

The athlete from Arizona, Mike Nixon, who has said previously that UCLA was where he wanted to go, is seeing his recruitment pick up from many schools, including UCLA...

Mike Nixon, 6-2, 195, Tucson (Ariz.) Sunnyside, has arranged an official visit to UCLA, as well as official visits to four other schools.

Nixon will visit Arizona State this weekend, his first visit. January 4th he'll officially visit Washington, and on January 11th he'll trip to UCLA. He'll visit Stanford January 18th and Notre Dame January 25th.

Reportedly, all of the schools he's visiting have offered, including UCLA, with possibly the exception of Stanford, which is a late addition to Nixon's recruiting. To date, Nixon has turned in his Stanford application, and it was unconfirmed whether Stanford had accepted him, but the word is that Stanford is pushing hard, which would make you assume he had been accepted by Stanford admissions.

UCLA coach Gary Bernardi had an in-home visit at the Nixon's Tucson home this week. A source indicates that UCLA is still the favorite, but the race could be tightening up for Nixon, who was named the High School Gatorade Player of the Year in Arizona. Nixon made it pretty clear through spring, summer, and early fall that UCLA was his preference. UCLA kept scouting Nixon, and then reportedly offered him sometime during his senior season, when he played both on offense as a quarterback, where he threw for over 2,000 yards and 30+ touchdowns, and defense. .

UCLA is recruiting him as an athlete, as are most of the other schools. He most likely projects as either a safety or a linebacker while ASU has offered him as a quarterback.
