Top 100 TE Narrows List

Tony Moeaki, the 58th ranked prospect in America, according to, accepted an invitation on Friday night to play in January's Army All-American Bowl. The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder from Wheaton (Ill.) Wheaton-Warrenville South is beginning to set up his official visits...

Wheaton (Ill) TE Tony Moeaki (6-4, 235, 4.7) denies a leader but favors Iowa (visited), BYU (9/18 official trip), Tennessee, Oregon (visited), UCLA and Notre Dame (visited). All have offered and this is the order he named his faves. When interviewed previously on 9/15, Tony said Iowa, BYU and Oregon were his leaders.

"I've only been on one official visit so far (BYU) and I won't compare it to the other visits I have yet to take," says Moeaki, from Warrenville South. "I know that I'm going to commit at the very end of this process and I'm going to have to take all my official visits to make that decision.

"I had a great time when I visited BYU. I like the coaches there and the game that they played against USC. The only low-point to the trip was that they lost the game. I didn't have a host, but my brother goes to BYU, so I hung out with him and the coach (Paul) Tidwell. I was only there for a little over 24 hours, and that game ended at midnight. By the time it was over I just went back to the hotel and went to sleep. The next day I woke up and hung around the football offices until I left at two in the afternoon.

"The coaches didn't pressure me to commit there and they are leaving it up to me for the decision. It was fun being there with Russell Tialavea and Vitlae So'oto for the visit. If all three of us went there we would definitely help out that program…we'd be bonus attributes really.

"BYU has some young players right now and they have the ability to be a great team if they keep working. I'm not favoring them over any other schools though. I'm going to take my official visits and then take it from there.

"Iowa has a good program and a great offense. I already feel I'd be really familiar with it because they run some of the same formations on their offense that I do at my high school. The coaching staff there is good.

"Tennessee is off to a really good year and I think they have one of the best atmospheres in college football. I haven't been there but I suppose they have one of the best facilities in the country.

"Oregon has some awesome facilities and the city of Eugene is beautiful--they have some really good weather. But I haven't seen them play in a game this year.

"UCLA has one of the top academic programs in the country. They are using their TEs a lot right now. Plus, it's in California. They use their TE Marcedes Lewis a lot in their passing game and he's a main focus on their offense.

"Notre Dame is Notre Dame…they have great tradition and a great history, and they're doing pretty good this year. They are using their TEs a lot this season too. My neighbor, Jerome Collins (TE), plays there and I get to ask him a lot of questions about the program."

Other offers include Nebraska, Penn St, Wisconsin, Illinois, Purdue, Arizona, LSU, Maryland and Michigan St.

Moeaki says he will also officially visit Iowa (12/10), Tennessee (10/23) and Oregon.
