One of the City Section's top two-way players is Lake Balboa (Calif.) Birmingham receiver/safety Corey Anderson (6-1, 170).

The athletic Anderson is off to a strong start in the 2004 season, with 634 yards receiving and four receiving touchdowns in six games, while also picking off a pair of passes from his free safety position. Anderson this last Saturday also had an 85-yard kick-off return for a touchdown.

Anderson has frequented UCLA games this season, and said the Bruins are one of the schools he is hearing from and a strong suitor in his recruitment. Anderson is waiting for his first scholarship offer, but thinks it could come soon.

"UCLA, San Diego State and Utah are the three schools I'm hearing from the most right now," Anderson said. "The school I really like is Washington State, but I haven't heard much from them."

Anderson is being recruited by Don Johnson to UCLA. For now, he is just doing what it takes on the field to garner an offer. "I'll keep playing the way I can to earn a scholarship. I'd like to see my choices and then take all of my trips, but if the right school comes along, I could make my choice." Anderson has a 3.4 GPA and will take the SAT for the first time in November.
