A Sleeper at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame High

While everyone in the country knows about elite prospect Cary Harris from Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame, there is a teammate of Harris's, a defensive end prospect, that is starting to get some attention, including from UCLA...

With teammate Cary Harris commanding a lot of attention from college programs, one player benefiting from that exposure is Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame defensive end Tony DeMartinis (6-4 ½, 225).

The rising senior has had several schools contact him since September 1st, and he has pared his top schools down to a trio.

"I've been hearing from Fresno State, San Diego State, Oregon, UC Davis, Harvard, Arizona, Washington State and UCLA. I went to one of UCLA's gamesl," said DeMartinis.

DeMartinis said his top three were all Golden State schools: UCLA, San Diego State and Fresno State.

It's frustrating, though, for him, at this point. "I'm still waiting for my first offer, and I'm a little frustrated," DeMartinis said. "But I know a lot of guys on our team are in the same boat. I'm patient, though. I know that they are waiting to get more film."

DeMartinis attended the Stanford Nike Camp but still, few schools called him. However, a strong start for Notre Dame and for himself has opened some eyes.

Through six games, Notre Dame is 6-0 and ranked #1 in Division III in CIF. DeMartinis has three sacks, a safety, an interception, a handful of tackles for loss and a pair of forced fumbles.

When looking at a school, DeMartinis said several factors will play into his decision. "I'm looking to see if it has a good program, a good environment, a good social life, and good academics. I'm thinking about majoring in engineering."

While he still is waiting on an offer, DeMartinis said if the right offer came, he'd commit and get it over with. Otherwise, he plans to take official visits.

DeMartinis has a 3.7 GPA, scored a 26 on the ACT and an 1110 on the SAT, which far exceeds the minimum NCAA requirements.
