Wide Receiver Commits

UCLA gets its twelfth commitment of the recruiting season when a wide receiver from the state of Washington committed Monday...

Jamil Turner, a 6-1, 185-pound wide receiver from Spanaway (Wash.) Bethel, verbally committed to UCLA Monday.

"UCLA has always been a school I've watched," Turner said. "That's one of the schools I liked sinc the beginning. I looked att it and thought it was the right thing to do."

Turner has offers from Eastern Washington, Montana, Montana State and Idaho. He's also gotten attention from Washington, Washington State and Oregon State.

In 10 games so far this season, he has 63 catches for about 1,200 yards and 17 touchdowns. He said he runs a 4.6 40.

Turner played safety as a junior, but also is a fairly accomplished basketball player, where he uses his 34-inch vertical leap. Those kind of hops also come in handy in football, with Turner often times being able to out-jump opposing defenders for the ball.

UCLA just offered Turner last Wednesday and he committed in less than a week. "(UCLA offensive coodinator) Tom Cable was recruiting me," Turner said. "And when he offered, I just didn't want to wait. I wanted to get it over with and focus on the rest of my football season. Coach Cable told me he thought I was a player that could really help them and make some big plays for them."

Turner will take his official visit to UCLA December 18th.

Turner said he has a 3.4 GPA and scored an 860 on his SAT, which is passing by NCAA standards.
