We asked Hawes about the factors that might influence his decision.
"I want to see how teams do this year," said Hawes. "If a team does big things, that will bolster their appeal. Location will play a role but, if I like someplace, the location isn't going to sway me."
Hawes went on to say, "Playing time will be a big deal. You can't get better if you're not playing. A winning program will also be important."
When questioned about the timing of his decision, Hawes replied, "If I were to commit in the spring, it would have to be a place that jumped out at me and offered something very unique."
"I'm not going to let that affect me," said Hawes. "It'd be nice to play with them, but this isn't a package deal."
Hawes told us that he has a 3.8 GPA.
