UCLA Will Try to Steal One From Houston

Texas athlete Willie Gaston takes his official visit to UCLA this weekend, but he said it will be hard to beat Houston for him...

Texas athlete, Willie Gaston, is heading to Westwood to see if the Bruins can pull him away from Houston.

Gaston, 5-11, 180, 4.4, Houston (Tex.) Northshore, is taking his second official visit of the recruiting season, to UCLA this weekend, and first since he ventured to Houston on December 14. Houston made a great impression on Gaston, which was helped considerably by the fact that Levi Gaston, his brother, is a Cougar. "Everybody has to try and beat Houston. The visit went pretty well, but I have to remember it was only my first visit," Gaston said.

"I leave Friday to go to UCLA. I'll try to have fun there, and see if they can change my mind about U of H." Gaston is still considering Houston, UCLA, Arizona ( which he plans to visit January 18th) and Oklahoma State (January 25th) . Gaston has an in-home visit scheduled with Arizona today (Wednesday), but has yet to have in-home visits from UCLA and Oklahoma State.

UCLA quarterbacks coach, John Pearce, recruits Texas for UCLA and told Gaston that he will be hosted by safety Matt Ware. He was told that Ware will be moving over to safety next year to make room for a new corner to join the defensive backfield. Pearce has numerous ties to the Lone Star state. He was head football coach at Stephen F. Austin University in Texas from 1992-98 and graduated from East Texas State in 1970.

Both UCLA and Houston want Gaston to play corner while Oklahoma State will give him the opportunity to play quarterback as he did as a high school senior.

Gaston is still working on getting a qualifying test score. "I'm almost there. I start a prep class next week." He said he carries a 3.1 GPA.
