Is There a Chance With McCovey?

Elite linebacker prospect, Adrian McCovey from Lakewood (Calif.) High, said he could go to UCLA under one scenario...

UCLA tried early on with Lakewood (Calif.) High inside linebacker Adrian McCovey, (6-3, 218) and while they are on the outside looking in currently, the fact they are close to home has kept them in the mix for him.

Recently, UCLA officially offered him and McCovey said that there is a scenario that could get him to go to UCLA. "If I decide to go close to home, then UCLA is the school I'd go to," said McCovey. "Right now, I'm looking to go away. But things change."

As of now, McCovey's top four programs includes a pair of Pac-10 schools, Oregon State and California, with the other two being Miami and Oklahoma, programs known for their linebacking tradition.

"I only have four visits set, and that may be all I take. I'm going to Oklahoma this weekend. I'm going to Miami in January, and Cal and Oregon State, I'm not sure when." said McCovey. "UCLA, I may take an unofficial there or I might take an official, I don't know."

McCovey will trip to Oklahoma with his teammate, and fellow elite linebacker prospect, Luther Brown.

McCovey had a fine senior campaign, finishing the year with 91 tackels tackles and five sacks in leading Lakewood to the CIF Division I Semifinals, where they lost to Los Alamitos. In fact, their two losses this year came to the finalists of the Division I game, Long Beach Poly and Los Alamitos. He has been selected to play in the CaliFlorida Bowl next month in Miami.

McCovey has a 2.5 GPA and is retaking the SAT.
