Lockett's Situation Changes with UCLA

A month ago, UCLA asked Bret Lockett, the 6-2, 195-pound athlete from Diamond Bar, Calif., if he'd like to grayshirt. Lockett took a moment away from his official visit to another Pac-10 school to update us on his situation with UCLA...

On his third, and probably final official trip, Diamond Bar (Calif.) receiver/safety Bret Lockett (6-2, 195) took a moment from his visit to update his recruitment.

"I'm on my trip to Oregon State right now," said Lockett, who was bowling when we talked to him Friday night. Lockett filled us in on his situation with UCLA: "Now it's looking like they could offer me as a regular scholarship, instead of as a greyshirt. They said they may have the scholarships now. When I get back from Oregon State, I'll talk with them again to see the whole situation."

Lockett has also visited Arizona, and when he tripped to UCLA in late December, he was offered a scholarship as a greyshirt.

Lockett enjoyed his visit to UCLA and can see himself there. "Wesley Walker was my host and I got to meet a lot of the younger guys and all the recruits. A lot of the recruits I'm playing with in the CaliFlorida Bowl. I'm real excited to be playing in that. The guys I met, I'm real cool with, and fit in real well with."

Lockett has five offers, from UCLA, Arizona, Utah, Oregon State and Boise State.

He just returned from Miami, where he was participating in the CaliFlorida Bowl. "It was a real good experience for me. I only had one catch, but I got to start for California. They started me as a running back, but motioned me out to receiver. It was just a cool time. I got to play with a lot of great players and we were close to winning, but just couldn't pull it off."

We will have more from Lockett when he returns from Corvallis.

He has a 3.07 GPA and is awaiting his SAT score.
