Chris Williams Will Visit and Find Out

The speedy athlete from Rio Rancho, New Mexico, 5-8 Chris Williams, will officially visit UCLA this weekend, and he's as curious as anyone about whether UCLA will offer him. He's not getting recruited as a running back, though...

One of the top track athletes in the Southwest will take an official visit to UCLA this weekend, when all-purpose player Chris Williams (5-8, 145) from Rio Rancho, New Mexico, will visit Westwood.

"My dad and I are heading out there on Friday. I'm interested in seeing what they do with me, if they offer me. Hopefully I like it, and they like me," said Williams.

Though small in stature, Williams is an accomplished track star, and he wouldn't mind doing that in college as well. "I've jumped 6-10 in the high jump. I also run the 100m, 200m and 400m. Hopefully I can do both in college."

He holds scholarship offers from Ohio, New Mexico State and Air Force. So far, he has visited Ohio and New Mexico State officially.

But he says he's still considering all his options, which could include UCLA. "Right now, I don't really have a leader. Even if UCLA offers me, I'm going to look at my options before I make a decision. I want to see which one is best for me," said Williams.

Williams is being recruited by quarterbacks coach Jim Svoboda, and Williams has had a positive experience with him. He said, "He's a good guy. I'm hoping to meet Coach Dorrell when I'm out there too."

Williams said the Bruin staff is recruiting him as a receiver and a kick-returner.

"I can return both kicks and punts and love doing both," said Williams.

Williams sports a 3.2 and a 22 ACT score.
