As Norco's primary ball-carrier, Gerhart totaled 2,210 yards on the ground and 27 touchdowns in leading the Cougars to the CIF Division Division V Finals. He was also named an All-CIF Division V selection.
Now Gerhart is beginning to get some recruiting attention from college coaches, and recently received his first offer.
A gifted football player, Gerhart is also a top-tier baseball player, playing for the Atlanta Braves scout team. "I'm hoping that I can play both baseball and football in college if that's the route I go, but honestly, my future may be in baseball," Gerhart said.
The Bruins are one of his top teams, though he remains open to everyone. He attended most of UCLA's home games this past season and is primarily being recruited by receivers coach Dino Babers.
For the summer camp scene, Gerhart was invited to the Nike Camp in Los Angeles, but isn't sure he will attend. He does have definite plans to go to Stanford's baseball camp this summer and will also play summer baseball.
Because of the options he has in baseball and in football, Gerhart said he won't be in a hurry to make a decision. "I'm going to let it unfold and see what happens, see what offers I have," he said.
He said his parents' only preference is that he goes somewhere with good academics. "That's why they like the Dukes, Stanfords and UCLAs," Gerhart said.
The top-ranked student in his junior class, Gerhart sports a 4.67 weighted GPA and will take his SAT in March.
