2006: Louisiana DT Chaz Washington

The 6-3, 288-pound Chaz Washington is another from the state of Louisiana that UCLA is showing interest. With two big scholarship offers already, Washington has ties to California and talks about how a UCLA offer would impact him...

A place UCLA has had considerable success in the past few years recruiting is Louisiana, and it's no surprise that UCLA assistant coach Eric Bieniemy is again back in the Bayou looking for potential Bruins.

Destrehan (La.) High defensive tackle Chaz Washington (6-3, 288) is one of the top linemen in the South for the 2006 class, already sporting offers from LSU and Ole Miss.

He is also hearing from UCLA, USC, Miami, Florida State, Notre Dame, Alabama, Auburn and Texas.

With a number of Southern powerhouses on him, why the interest in the L.A. schools? "I love it out there," Washington said. "I have family there and California is a wonderful place. I would love to be able to go to school out there."

Bieniemy has been writing Washington and Washington had good things to say about the Bruins newly named recruiting coordinator. "Coach Bieniemy is very interested in me, and I am very interested in them. If they offered, I could even commit there," said Washington.

Two years ago, UCLA was in on Destrehan tackle Daryl Richards, thus setting up the relationship between Bieniemy and Washington, who as a junior had 65 tackles, 10 sacks and 10 tackles for loss.

Washington's best friend is Destrehan quarterback Jai Eugene, who is also a highly-regarded prospect.

His timetable for a decision depends on the best offer he gets, and academics will play a major part in his decision. "I need to get a great education, so that is important to me. My dad, he said wherever I go, he'll pack up and go with me to see my play."

Academically, Washington has around a 3.0 GPA and took his ACT in February.
