Umodu Commits to UCLA

UCLA gets its second commitment for the Class of 2006 from one of the top defensive ends in the Southland, West Covina (Calif.) South Hills pass-rusher Tobi Umodu

For a week, West Covina (Calif.) South Hills defensive end/linebacker Tobi Umodu (6-1, 225) hinted that he may commit to UCLA at Junior Day.

And as expected, Umodu verballed to the Bruins on Saturday.

"It was everything I was hoping for and then some. I had a good time there and got to speak with Coach Dorrell and I gave him my commitment," said Umodu.

Umodu attended last weekend's Spring Practice, and thought he may commit then, but decided to wait until Junior Day.

The visit to Westwood on Saturday was better than the one last week because of what was available to him.

"This time I got to see all of the campus. I hadn't been able to see it yet, but I saw it all and I just like everything about the school," said Umodu.

Umodu plays defensive end for South Hills, but will most likely move to outside linebacker when he arrives in college.

"I met with Coach Kerr and he showed me the linebacker sets and it will be good to play there. I watched some of the scrimmage and they looked real good."

Umodu said he is firmly committed to UCLA but may take some trips just to see what else is out there.

He has been clocked at a 4.6 forty and hopes to get it to the 4.5 mark.

This past year, Umodu had his second straight 17-sack season, totaling 79 tackles on the year, forcing 2 fumbles and recovering one, and intercepting a pass.

Academically, he has a 3.0 GPA and will take his SAT later this Spring.
