2006: Cornerback Vincent Joseph

The next Long Beach Poly defensive back is 5-10, 185-pound Vincent Joseph, who came to UCLA's Junior Day on Saturday and the Bruins are doing really well with him...

UCLA already has a pair of Long Beach (Calif.) Poly products at cornerback, Rodney Van and Byron Velega, and there is a chance both could start in the Fall.

Now another Poly cornerback is on UCLA's recruiting radar, 5-10, 185-pound Vincent Joseph, and he is another in a long-line of stellar Jackrabbit defensive backs.

Joseph was one of four Poly players at Junior Day at UCLA this past Saturday, and the trip catapulted the Bruins to the top of Joseph's list.

"If UCLA offered, man, I'd take it," said Joseph. "It was way more than I was expecting. The facilities are amazing, and it was a real organized day. They showed us around the whole campus and I got to meet with the coaches and they are really good," said Joseph.

Joseph got to spend time with defensive back coach Gary DeLoach and head coach Karl Dorrell. "Coach DeLoach, I really like the way he coaches. And he is a real nice guy. Coach Dorrell, he is fun and energetic."

Joseph was able to watch the scrimmage and see his fellow Jackrabbits in action. "It was cool to see all of them. Poly has a lot of pride, and those guys showed it. It was like a Poly atmosphere there," said Joseph.

To date, Joseph's lone offer is from Washington State, but he is also hearing from Cal, Oregon and LSU, in addition to UCLA.

"Those are my top five, but right now, UCLA is probably my leader," said Joseph.

Another track star for Poly, Joseph hopes to do both in college. He runs the 100, 200, 4x100, 4x400 and does the long jump. "If the coaches will let me, I want to do both," said Joseph.

This past year, Joseph saw few passes come to his side, but still had 25 tackles, 27 pass break-ups, and 3 fumble recoveries, while he also blocked 5 field goals.

Academically, Joseph he is on track to be set for NCAA admission, and will take the SAT in April.
