2006: Budinger Still Open

The top-50 national prospect in the class of 2006, 6-7 Chase Budinger from Encinitas (Calif.) La Costa Canyon told us he still hasn't narrowed down his list of schools...

We spoke with Chase Budinger, 6-7 JR SF Encinitas (Calif.) La Costa Canyon, this past weekend in Las Vegas and asked him about the programs he's been hearing from lately.

"Arizona, UCLA, USC, Oregon, Kansas and Utah are the main ones," said Budinger.

Budinger said each of the schools has called in recent weeks and they've all extended scholarship offers.

We asked Budinger if he has set up any in-home or official visits yet.

"No – we haven't set any dates yet," said Budinger. "I've taken unofficial visits to Arizona and UCLA already. I'm open right now, but I kind of want to stay more on the West Coast."

Budinger is a top volleyball prospect and we questioned him about how that might affect his decision.

"UCLA, Pepperdine and USC are the schools recruiting me that offer both," said Budinger. "I've talked with the coaches at those schools and they're all fine with me playing both sports if I want. But right now, I'm mainly going for basketball and I'm undecided about volleyball."

We asked if he has any schools that he's pretty sure he'd like to visit and Budinger replied, "Probably Kansas, Arizona…maybe someplace like Kentucky, Oregon or Washington."

Budinger told us he has no timeframe for making his decision. He also said he's doing well academically and will have no trouble qualifying.
