‘Tis the season.
The All-CIF Southern Section teams were announced, with quite a UCLA flavor.
Darren Collison, UCLA's committed senior point guard from Etiwanda (Calif.) High, was named the Division 1-AA Player of the Year.
Mike Roll, UCLA's committed senior shooting guard from Aliso Viejo (Calif.) Aliso Niguel, was named the Division 1-A Player of the Year.
James Keefe, the junior power forward committed to UCLA from Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita, was named the Division 3-AA Player of the Year.
Taylor King, the sophomore small forward committed to UCLA from Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei, was named to the Division 2-A first team.
UCLA recruit Alex Stepheson, the junior post from Studio City (Calif.) Harvard-Westlake, was named the Division 3-A Player of the Year.
Kelvin Kim, the senior point guard from El Toro (Calif.) High, who plans to walk on to UCLA, made the Division 1-A first team.
The Reebok Collision IV All-Star game that pits CIF Southern Section senior all-stars against their counterparts in the City Section took place Saturday night. In a win for the CIF Southern Section, Collison was named MVP of the game, scoring 19 points. Roll contributed 15 points, playing alongside Collison.
Luc Richard Mbaha Moute, the 6-7 small forward committed to UCLA from Montverde (Fla.) Montverde Academy, will play in the Commonwealth Classic All-Star game Friday night at Virginia Commonwealth.
Collison and fellow senior commit, 6-8 Ryan Wright from Mississauga (Ont., Canada) Loyola Catholic, will play in the Derby Classic All-Star Game April 16th on Louisville's campus.
Neither the Commonwealth game or the Derby Classic will be televised, to our knowledge.
