2006: Al Woods

UCLA goes to -- where else? -- Louisiana in pursuit of 6-3, 329-pound defensive tackle Al Woods, who says he has some big scholarship offers while also liking the Bruins because of its Louisiana connections...

A highly-regarded defensive tackle, from, of course, Louisiana, is on the Bruins recruiting board, and in return, he has strong interest in them.

Elton (LA.) High's Al Woods (6-3, 329) has four scholarship offers at this time, and while UCLA hasn't extended one yet, Woods has the Bruins among his top schools.

"I've got offers from Oklahoma, Clemson, Nebraska and USC," said Woods. "And I also like UCLA, Washington, Florida Atlantic and LSU."

Woods declined to name a leader, saying he was wide open at this time, but had two favorite schools growing up.

"My two favorites were LSU and Oklahoma growing up," said Woods.

Woods is hearing from UCLA assistant coach Eric Bieniemy for UCLA and said the number of players from Louisiana currently at UCLA helps make them a legitimate candidate.

His camp plans include the Nike Camp at TCU then camps at LSU and Oklahoma later this summer.

As a junior, Woods had 100 tackles, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and several quarterback hurries. This season, besides playing tackle, he will also try his hand at tight end after playing guard a season ago.

In regard to picking a college, Woods said a decision won't be made until Signing Day. "I'm going to take all five of my trips. The decision is up to me, so I need to make the right one and see all of my choices," said Woods.

Woods has a 2.6 GPA and took the ACT, but wasn't happy with his score, and will take it again.
