Final 2005 West Coast Rankings: Point Guards

UCLA's senior committed point guard Darren Collison is one of the two elite point guards in the west coast in the final rankings for 2005...

The point guards in the west for 2005 have some interesting prospects but only a couple of elite players. Chalmers is the clear-cut choice for the top ranking. An explosive athlete, Chalmers is not a pure one but he's very talented. He can score in bunches, with very good range on his shot and he's improved his ability to set up teammates. Collison has improved dramatically since last summer. His athleticism is better and he's now able to finish at the rim. He has an accurate outside shot, although his stroke is a bit long. Johnson has a very good combination of size, quickness and skill level. He's improved considerably in the last year and there's still room for growth. He's got a nice frame, good length and a solid stroke to the stripe. Mitch Johnson is another pure point guard with an excellent feel for the game. His shot is just decent, but he has good vision and he plays unselfishly. He doesn't have great physical tools, but gets the maximum out of his ability. Powell is not a true point, but is more of a lead guard. He's a very good shooter, with excellent range, and he's a solid defender.
