Rancho Cordova (Calif.) Cordova is home to one of the top running backs in the West in James Montgomery (5-10, 195).

A gifted ballcarrier, Montgomery has been hearing from most of the Pac-10, and has received five offers at this point, with several other suitors sending letters.

"I've gotten offers from Washington, Washington State, Arizona, Arizona State and Northwestern so far," said Montgomery.

Three of those schools make his top five, with the other two being schools he's been hearing from regularly, even though they haven't offered as of yet.

"My top five is Washington, Arizona, Arizona State, USC and UCLA," said Montgomery.

Montgomery is also hearing from California, Oregon and Penn State.

UCLA receivers coach Jon Embree is recruiting Montgomery for the Bruin staff. "Coach Embree is real cool. He said they like the way I run and they just want to see some more film before they offer," said Montgomery.

Montgomery has been to USC's Junior Day, took an unofficial trip to Washington and will be at Cal's Junior Day this weekend.

"I'm in no rush to make a decision. I want to take some trips, see what other schools are interested, and probably wait a while. I don't want to rush anything though," said Montgomery.

He has been invited to, and will attend, the Nike Camp at Stanford.

As a junior last season, Montgomery rushed for 1,915 yards on 215 carries and 35 touchdowns, and was named an all-Section pick.

Academically, Montgomery is carrying a 2.6 GPA and scored a 19 on the ACT, which would put him on course to qualify academically by NCAA standards.
